When to travel
Izmir has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers where afternoon temperatures regularly sit in the mid-thirties and mild, distinctly wet winters. The sea breeze along the Kordon takes the edge off summer heat, but outdoor archaeological sites such as Ephesus offer almost no shade and need early starts.
