Upon arrival at Narita International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your tour guide before transferring into the vibrant heart of Tokyo. Along the way, enjoy your first glimpses of Japan’s striking blend of traditional design, contemporary architecture and creative energy. After settling into your hotel, gather for a delicious halal welcome dinner—the perfect introduction to the flavours, culture and artistic inspiration awaiting you on this exciting journey.

After breakfast, the group will divide for a morning of specialised creative exploration. Design Technology students will travel by train to the Kigumi Museum to discover the precision of traditional Japanese wooden joinery, before experiencing the immersive digital artworks of teamLab Planets TOKYO. Art students will take part in a hands-on manga workshop and explore the bold, imaginative world of one of Japan’s most celebrated contemporary artists at the Yayoi Kusama Museum.

After a halal lunch, the groups will reunite to visit the peaceful Meiji Shrine before exploring the colourful fashion, street art and youth culture of Harajuku. The day continues at vibrant Shibuya, including its world-famous crossing, before concluding with dinner and an exciting Dark Bowling experience.

After breakfast, begin your day in historic Asakusa with a visit to magnificent Sensō-ji, Tokyo’s oldest and most celebrated Buddhist temple. Walk beneath the iconic Kaminarimon Gate, explore the lively Nakamise shopping street and admire the temple’s striking architecture, intricate details and traditional design.

Continue with an authentic Japanese tea ceremony, discovering the graceful rituals, refined aesthetics and cultural meaning behind this centuries-old art form. Afterwards, visit the Sumida Hokusai Museum to explore the life, techniques and influential woodblock prints of Katsushika Hokusai, creator of The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

Complete the day at the Tokyo National Museum, home to an exceptional collection of Japanese and Asian art, including paintings, ceramics, sculpture, samurai armour, textiles and historic artefacts. This inspiring day offers a fascinating journey through Japan’s artistic heritage, craftsmanship and enduring cultural traditions.

After breakfast, leave Tokyo behind for an unforgettable full-day excursion to Hakone, a beautiful mountain region celebrated for its natural scenery, volcanic landscapes and artistic attractions. Begin with a relaxing cruise across Lake Ashi, where calm waters, forested hills and, weather permitting, magnificent views of Mount Fuji create a spectacular natural canvas.

Continue aboard the Hakone Ropeway, soaring above the dramatic landscape towards Owakudani, an active volcanic valley known for its steaming vents, sulphurous clouds and rugged scenery. After enjoying a seafood lunch, visit the renowned Hakone Open-Air Museum, where impressive sculptures and contemporary artworks are displayed against a breathtaking backdrop of mountains and gardens. Explore its creative indoor galleries and outdoor installations before returning to Tokyo for dinner after a memorable day combining Japanese art, nature and extraordinary scenery.

Imperial Gardens, Contemporary Art & Kyoto Bound

After breakfast, your large baggage will be couriered directly to your hotel in Kyoto, with one piece per person included. Please pack everything required for one night in a small bag to carry with you.

Begin the day at the beautiful Imperial Palace East Gardens, where historic stone walls, traditional landscaping and seasonal plants provide insight into Japanese garden design and imperial history. Continue to the Mori Art Museum, renowned for its innovative exhibitions of contemporary Japanese and international art, followed by the National Art Center, an architectural masterpiece featuring one of Japan’s largest exhibition spaces.

You will then experience the colourful energy of Akihabara, Tokyo’s famous centre for anime, manga, gaming and digital culture. Later, transfer to Tokyo Station and board the high-speed bullet train to Kyoto. Upon arrival, travel by subway to the Comfort Hotel Kyoto Horikawagojo and settle in. Complete the day with a fun conveyor-belt sushi dinner, offering a lively and memorable Japanese dining experience.

Kyoto's Ancient Arts & Living Traditions

After breakfast, begin an inspiring day at Fushimi Inari Shrine, one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks. Walk through its spectacular pathway of thousands of vermilion torii gates, admire the traditional architecture and discover the spiritual symbolism associated with this important Shinto shrine.

Continue to the Samurai and Ninja Museum, where you will explore the fascinating history, armour, weapons and traditions of Japan’s legendary warriors. With basic experience tickets included, you will also have the opportunity to take part in an engaging interactive activity.

The day continues with a series of creative cultural experiences. Dress in an elegant traditional kimono and learn how its colours, patterns and styling reflect Japanese identity and design. During a hands-on calligraphy lesson, practise the controlled brushstrokes used to create beautiful Japanese characters. You will also discover the skill and patience behind traditional washi papermaking as you create your own unique piece to keep.

Conclude the day in Gion, Kyoto’s atmospheric historic district, where narrow lanes, wooden machiya townhouses, traditional teahouses and lantern-lit streets offer a captivating glimpse into old Japan.

Kyoto’s Golden Heritage & Farewell

After breakfast, begin your final day at the magnificent Kinkaku-ji, better known as the Golden Pavilion. Admire its shimmering gold-leaf exterior reflected beautifully in the surrounding pond and discover how architecture, landscape and nature combine to create one of Japan’s most celebrated artistic scenes.

Continue to Ryōan-ji Temple, renowned for its mysterious Zen rock garden and minimalist design. Its carefully arranged stones, raked gravel and peaceful surroundings demonstrate the Japanese principles of balance, simplicity and contemplation. You will then visit the Kyoto Imperial Palace, once the residence of Japan’s emperors, to explore its elegant architecture, ceremonial spaces and beautifully landscaped grounds.

After lunch, continue to Kiyomizu-dera, an impressive hillside temple famous for its vast wooden terrace and panoramic views across Kyoto. Conclude your exploration with a walk through the atmospheric streets of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka, lined with preserved wooden townhouses, craft shops, galleries and traditional cafés. These historic lanes provide a wonderful final opportunity to appreciate Kyoto’s artistry and perhaps purchase a locally made souvenir.
