Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be welcomed by your driver and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, there will be time to settle into your accommodation and recover from the journey. In the evening, you will meet the local team for an introduction to the programme, including an overview of the activities ahead, important cultural guidance and practical information for your stay. Enjoy dinner at the hotel before your first night in Cape Town.

Community Projects, Sports Coaching & Water Awareness Island

After breakfast, you will begin your first day of meaningful community engagement. Depending on local requirements, you may support educational and conservation-themed activities for children, assist with homework or help deliver creative learning sessions. The experience provides an opportunity to interact with local young people while developing your communication, teamwork and leadership skills.

In the afternoon, take part in a sports coaching and development project within one of Cape Town’s township communities. Through structured games and physical activities, you will help create an energetic and inclusive environment in which children can exercise, socialise and build confidence.

The day concludes with an educational workshop exploring water scarcity in South Africa. You will learn about the causes and consequences of water shortages, Cape Town’s own experiences of drought and the importance of responsible water management.

Cape Town’s History, Waterfront & Robben Island

Following breakfast, visit the District Six Museum to explore one of the most powerful chapters in Cape Town’s history. Through photographs, personal accounts and preserved artefacts, you will discover how thousands of residents were forcibly removed from their homes under apartheid and how these events continue to shape the city today.

Continue to the lively V&A Waterfront, where historic harbour buildings, shops, restaurants and public spaces sit beneath the unmistakable outline of Table Mountain. From here, travel by ferry to Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela was held for many years. The guided visit offers a moving insight into South Africa’s struggle against apartheid and the extraordinary resilience of those who fought for freedom and equality.

Later, participate in a workshop introducing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and consider how global objectives such as quality education, reduced inequalities and sustainable communities connect

Working alongside local staff, you may assist children with reading, basic numeracy, educational games, arts and crafts, classroom activities or supervised play. The precise programme will be shaped by the needs of the placement at the time of your visit.

As your confidence grows, you will have opportunities to take greater responsibility, contribute ideas and help create positive and engaging learning sessions. Although the tasks may appear simple, consistent encouragement and personal attention can make a valuable contribution to both children and the teachers who support them.

After breakfast, travel to one of South Africa’s most celebrated natural landmarks. Ride the cable car to the summit of Table Mountain, weather permitting, and enjoy spectacular panoramic views across Cape Town, the Atlantic coastline, Lion’s Head and Robben Island. It is an unforgettable setting in which to appreciate the remarkable geography and natural beauty surrounding the city.

The afternoon is free for relaxation, souvenir shopping or further exploration with your group. In the evening, come together for a final reflection session and student presentations. You will have the opportunity to share memorable moments, discuss the challenges you encountered and consider how the experience has influenced your understanding of community, inequality and sustainable development. Celebrate your achievements over a special farewell dinner.

There will be an opportunity for some last-minute shopping or a final look around Cape Town. Later, you will be transferred to Cape Town International Airport for your return flight home, taking with you new friendships, greater cultural awareness and memories of an educational and personally rewarding South African experience.
