Rice field cycling, rafting and sustainable living
After breakfast, you will travel to Red Paddle, where your day begins with a safety briefing, bicycle fitting and an introduction to the route ahead. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you will cycle through Bali’s beautiful countryside, passing rice terraces, working farms, traditional villages and tropical landscapes that reveal a quieter side of the island.
During the ride, you will explore Bali’s UNESCO-recognised Subak irrigation system, a centuries-old method of water management that connects farming, community cooperation and Balinese spiritual beliefs. You will see how water is shared between rice fields and learn why farmers must work together to manage this precious resource fairly. The experience offers a fascinating insight into how traditional knowledge continues to support food production, rural livelihoods and environmental balance across Bali.
As you travel through the countryside, you will have opportunities to observe everyday village life, learn about rice cultivation and consider the challenges faced by farming communities as Bali continues to develop. The cycle ride combines physical activity with practical learning, encouraging you to connect what you see around you with wider themes of sustainability, resource management and community responsibility.
After completing the ride, you will enjoy a well-earned lunch before preparing for an exciting white-water rafting experience. Following a comprehensive safety briefing, equipment check and instruction from professional river guides, you will take to the water in teams. As you navigate the river’s rapids, calmer sections and natural obstacles, you will need to listen carefully, paddle together and communicate clearly.
The rafting experience provides an enjoyable but meaningful team challenge, helping you develop trust, resilience and confidence while supporting the other members of your raft. Along the way, you will experience Bali’s dramatic river scenery from a completely different perspective, surrounded by tropical vegetation, rocky gorges and cascading water.
After the rafting session, you will return to the hotel to shower, rest and share stories from the day before enjoying dinner together. The evening concludes with a guided reflection session and quiet journal writing, giving you time to consider how communication and cooperation helped your team, how you responded to unfamiliar challenges and what Bali’s traditional farming practices can teach us about living more sustainably.
