Shopping, Sea, Air and Space
After breakfast, cross the Hudson River into New Jersey for a visit to The Mills at Jersey Gardens. This enormous two-level indoor outlet mall features an extensive selection of international brands, fashion stores, sportswear and accessories. There will be plenty of time to browse the shops, find some excellent bargains and enjoy lunch before returning to Manhattan.
Your afternoon continues at the remarkable Intrepid Museum, located aboard the historic aircraft carrier USS Intrepid at Pier 86. This highly interactive museum explores American achievements in naval history, aviation, technology and space exploration. Step aboard the aircraft carrier, examine an impressive collection of military aircraft and discover what life was like for the thousands of people who served at sea. Exhibits may also include the Space Shuttle Enterprise and the Cold War-era submarine USS Growler.
After an inspiring afternoon of discovery, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel.
Day 5 – Philadelphia and the Road to Washington
After enjoying breakfast, check out of your New York hotel and begin your journey towards Washington DC. Along the way, you will stop in historic Philadelphia, a city that played a defining role in the creation of the United States.
Your first visit will be to the Liberty Bell, one of America’s most powerful symbols of independence, equality and freedom. You will learn about its famous inscription, its historic significance and how it became associated with movements for civil rights and social change.
Continue to Independence Hall, where representatives from the original American colonies debated and adopted the Declaration of Independence and where the United States Constitution was later created. Standing in this historic area offers an extraordinary connection to the events and ideas that shaped the nation.
Following your Philadelphia visit, continue to Washington DC. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy time to settle in before dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 6 – Monuments of Washington DC
Following breakfast at Harriet’s Diner, you will travel to historic Georgetown and board a relaxing sightseeing cruise along the Potomac River. During the 90-minute round-trip journey, enjoy a different perspective of Washington DC while passing significant landmarks, waterfront neighbourhoods and some of the city’s most recognisable monuments.
After the cruise, continue on foot to discover Washington’s magnificent National Mall and memorial landscape. Visit the impressive World War II Memorial, which honours the millions of Americans who served during the conflict, and learn about the symbolism incorporated into its design.
You will then walk towards the Lincoln Memorial, one of the capital’s most powerful and recognisable landmarks. Standing before the enormous seated statue of President Abraham Lincoln, students can reflect upon his leadership, the American Civil War and the continuing importance of equality and civil rights. Following an educational and memorable day in the capital, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 7 – Farewell to America
After an early breakfast at Harriet’s Diner, it will be time to check out of your hotel and say farewell to Washington DC. Your driver will collect you for the transfer to the airport, allowing sufficient time to complete check-in and security procedures before boarding your return flight to Dubai.
