About this trip

Discover the colour, culture and community spirit of Nepal on a rewarding six-day journey in and around Kathmandu. Explore ancient squares, sacred temples and UNESCO World Heritage Sites while learning how history, faith and tradition continue to shape everyday life in the Nepalese capital.

Alongside these cultural experiences, students will work together on a practical project at a local school or community centre. Activities may include refreshing classrooms, creating colourful murals and supporting improvements identified by the local team. Students may also have opportunities to meet local children, exchange experiences and gain a better understanding of life and education in Nepal.

A traditional welcome dinner and cultural dance performance provide a memorable introduction to the country, while guided tours offer further insight into Nepal’s social, cultural and economic landscape. More than a sightseeing trip, this experience encourages cooperation, creativity, resilience and problem-solving. Welcome to Kathmandu & Traditional Nepalese Evening
Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed by your local host and guide before transferring to your hotel. After checking in and enjoying some light refreshments, you will attend a welcome briefing covering the programme, cultural etiquette, safety guidance and the activities planned for the week. In the evening, experience your first taste of Nepalese culture through a colourful traditional dance performance, followed by a welcome dinner with the group.

After breakfast at your hotel, set out on a guided exploration of Kathmandu and discover the history, architecture and spiritual traditions of Nepal’s fascinating capital. Your sightseeing programme will include Kathmandu Durbar Square, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once the ceremonial heart of the ancient city.
You will also visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple complex and Boudhanath Stupa, one of the most important centres of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. Along the way, your guide will explain the customs, beliefs and historical influences that have shaped Kathmandu. Following breakfast, you will travel to the local school or community centre where your service project will take place. Meet the local team, learn more about the community and receive a practical briefing on the work that can be completed safely and responsibly during your visit.
Depending on local priorities, you may help refresh classrooms, paint walls, create colourful murals or improve shared learning spaces. Where suitable and under close supervision, the group may also assist with basic construction-related activities such as preparing materials, mixing cement, painting or supporting improvements to essential facilities.
Working together will encourage teamwork, communication, patience and problem-solving while giving you a better understanding of the realities faced by some local communities. At the end of the day, return to your hotel for dinner and time to reflect on your first day at the project.

The day is designed to be active and collaborative, helping you develop leadership, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility.
