Overview

About this trip

Discover the colour, culture and community spirit of Nepal on a rewarding six-day journey in and around Kathmandu. Explore ancient squares, sacred temples and UNESCO World Heritage Sites while learning how history, faith and tradition continue to shape everyday life in the Nepalese capital.

Alongside these cultural experiences, students will work together on a practical project at a local school or community centre. Activities may include refreshing classrooms, creating colourful murals and supporting improvements identified by the local team. Students may also have opportunities to meet local children, exchange experiences and gain a better understanding of life and education in Nepal.

A traditional welcome dinner and cultural dance performance provide a memorable introduction to the country, while guided tours offer further insight into Nepal’s social, cultural and economic landscape. More than a sightseeing trip, this experience encourages cooperation, creativity, resilience and problem-solving. Students will return home with greater confidence, increased global awareness, new friendships and a genuine sense of achievement.

Cultural awareness

Customs & norms in Nepal

A little cultural fluency goes a long way — these are the habits your hosts will notice and appreciate.

  • Greet with "namaste" and use your right hand for giving and receiving.
  • Walk clockwise around stupas and temples, and remove shoes before entering.
  • Public displays of affection are frowned upon; dress modestly.
