Arrival and the geography of power

Direct arrival at London Heathrow from Dubai and private coach transfer to accommodation within reach of Westminster, where the PCT tour manager meets the group and issues the week's programme and debate materials. The afternoon brings an orientation walk down Whitehall — the gates of Downing Street, the Cabinet Office, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Treasury, Horse Guards and the Cenotaph — mapping executive, civil service, military and memory, and asking why so much power sits in so few hundred metres. Over dinner, students are drawn into the teams and motions for the week's culminating Oxford Union debate, with coaching beginning immediately through a short-form icebreaker debate.

A morning guided tour of the Palace of Westminster takes in the green benches of the Commons, the red and gold of the Lords, the division lobbies and nine-hundred-year-old Westminster Hall, with discussion of procedure and the physical design of adversarial politics. At midday, Parliament's own education service runs a debate workshop inside the estate, with a Speaker in the chair, points of order, interventions and a formal division. In the afternoon, students put prepared questions to a serving parliamentarian on their voting record, the pressures on them and how the job differs from public perception, having been briefed in advance on asking questions that produce real answers.

Law, war and the weight of decisions

The morning is spent at the UK Supreme Court opposite Parliament, watching justices hear a live appeal and seeing the separation of powers operating in real time, with the visit timed against the published cause list. The afternoon visit to the Churchill War Rooms studies leadership, information management and decision-making under existential pressure, preparing students for a late-afternoon mock cabinet crisis simulation in which contradictory briefings arrive mid-discussion, the press office demands a statement and no decision can be deferred.

Oxford and the set-piece debate

An early coach to Oxford includes structured team preparation, with staff coaching argument structure, rebuttal and delivery. A mid-morning walking tour explores a historic college and the Bodleian Library quarter, discussing what it means for a democracy that so much of its establishment is formed in the same few streets. The afternoon centrepiece is the formal debate in the Victorian chamber of the Oxford Union, prepared since day one, with proposition and opposition speeches, floor speeches and a division at the close.

Money, the City and the media

The morning begins at the free Bank of England Museum, covering money, inflation, monetary policy and central bank independence, and giving every student the chance to lift a genuine thirteen-kilogram gold bar. A City of London walking tour follows, examining the square mile's own Lord Mayor, police force, business franchise and corporation older than Parliament — a case study in institutional survival, lobbying and accountability. In the afternoon, student teams research, script, present and record their own news bulletin to a deadline and running order, discovering how selection, framing and airtime shape what audiences believe.

The world in one room

A full-morning Model United Nations crisis committee, run by experienced facilitators with a UAE seat at the table, has students representing assigned states, drafting resolutions, building coalitions, negotiating amendments and responding to injected crisis updates — suitable for seasoned delegates and complete beginners alike. The afternoon moves to Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park, where students observe the speakers and hecklers and volunteers take the soapbox under supervision. The day closes with a farewell awards dinner, with Best Speaker, Best Delegate, Best Question and Best Rebuttal each requiring a short acceptance speech.

Britain in the world

A final morning walk through the streets around Trafalgar Square, ringed by high commissions and embassies, closes the week on Britain's place in the world and asks students for their own written answer before boarding the coach. The group then transfers to Heathrow for the direct afternoon service home to Dubai.
