Dubai — From Creek to Union

A guided walk through Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood introduces wind-tower architecture and life before air conditioning and oil wealth, prompting discussion of how climate, materials, family life and trade shaped the early city. The group then crosses Dubai Creek by traditional abra and explores the old trading districts and souks, learning about merchants, pearling, maritime connections and migration. After lunch in Old Dubai, a visit to the Etihad Museum examines the leadership, negotiation and shared vision behind the union of 1971. The day closes with a panoramic introduction to modern Dubai and a welcome dinner, with a short reflection on the speed of change.

Dubai — Designing the Future

The morning is spent at Expo City Dubai, where Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion uses interactive exhibits and school-focused learning to explore energy, water, consumption and biodiversity, with the building itself serving as a case study in sustainable architecture. After lunch at Expo City or a nearby group venue, and subject to advance school-group availability, the Museum of the Future frames enquiry into science, technology, health, space and climate, encouraging students to question which innovations genuinely solve problems. The group then visits Downtown Dubai to consider urban planning and scale against the backdrop of Burj Khalifa, with dinner in the Downtown area.

A guided visit to the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, or a comparable heritage programme, explores the contribution of Islamic civilisation to art, science, navigation, architecture and learning, while time in the historic city shows how conservation protects traditional urban character. After lunch in the Sharjah or Mleiha area, the group travels inland to Mleiha Archaeological Centre to study evidence of early inhabitants, burial sites and geological formations, investigating how climate, water, movement and trade influenced settlement. A guided desert component allows students to read rock formations, dunes, wadis and plains before returning to Dubai for dinner.

Abu Dhabi — Faith, Leadership & Nationhood

Following breakfast and check-out, the group travels to the federal capital for a guided cultural tour of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, examining geometry, calligraphy, materials and symmetry alongside religious practice and the values of hospitality and respect; appropriate dress and visitor etiquette are discussed before arrival. After a group lunch, students visit Qasr Al Watan, the working Presidential palace, to discuss the institutions of the UAE, scholarship, diplomacy and national development, comparing its architectural language with that of the mosque. The afternoon includes time on the Corniche and waterfront, followed by dinner in Abu Dhabi and an evening reflection on the character of a capital city.

Abu Dhabi — Art, Identity & Living Heritage

The morning is spent at Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, exploring connections between civilisations, artistic traditions and belief systems, with the building offering a case study in architecture, light, geometry and environmental design; the visit can be tailored towards art, history, design, languages or global citizenship. After lunch on Saadiyat or in central Abu Dhabi, the group visits Qasr Al Hosn and the neighbouring House of Artisans to encounter traditional crafts such as Al Sadu weaving and palm-frond work, with a demonstration or hands-on workshop where available. Dinner in Abu Dhabi is followed by discussion of why cultural preservation matters in a rapidly changing society.

The group travels inland to Al Ain, where Al Ain Oasis and its traditional falaj irrigation systems provide a practical lesson in managing scarce water in an arid environment, linking date cultivation, groundwater and settlement. A visit to Al Jahili Fort, or another suitable heritage site, explores the defensive and administrative role of forts in the oasis. After lunch in Al Ain, the group heads to the Jebel Hafit landscape to consider geology, early settlement and long-distance trade, with viewpoints revealing the contrast between oasis, desert plain and mountain terrain. The return to Dubai is followed by dinner on arrival.

Ras Al Khaimah — Mountains, Forts & Farewell

Travelling north to Ras Al Khaimah, the group visits the hilltop Dhayah Fort, where the relationship between geography and defence is clear, and discusses why settlements developed where water and fertile land were available. After lunch in the Ras Al Khaimah or Jebel Jais area, students view the Hajar Mountain scenery from a suitable viewing area and, subject to weather, age and risk-assessment requirements, join a guided low-intensity nature or geology walk examining rock, elevation, temperature, erosion and mountain habitats. The group returns to Dubai for a farewell dinner and guided reflection, which may include student presentations or a travel journal activity.
